Volunteering for Hill Country Flood

Learn how to sign up for volunteer opportunities to serve survivors of the July 4 Hill Country Floods

On July 4, 2025, there was a devastating flash flood having a significant impact in the Texas Hill Country. While the physical location is in the Hill Country, the impacted households reside throughout the state.

The majority of the impacted countries are in Texas Rio Grande Legal Aid’s (“TRLA”) service area, and we anticipate that is where the highest need for pro bono assistance will be. TRLA is requesting individual volunteers to sign up on their website

However, we do anticipate some legal needs throughout the state. If you wish to receive those opportunities, please sign up at Lone Star Legal Aid and Legal Aid of NorthWest Texas as well by visiting their sites.

We also encourage volunteers to sign up through Texas Disaster Legal Help to gain access to training materials on disaster response. Additionally, pro bono opportunities from Lone Star Legal Aid are shared in Texas Disaster Legal Help.

The legal community has always stepped up to assist our neighbors with the legal matters that result from natural disasters.  To better understand the process, Texas Disaster Legal Help recommends that you review this blog post from 2024: Volunteering After a Disaster as well as the Introduction Chapter from the Disaster Manual. In Section 1.6 of the Disaster Manual Introduction, you will see a timeline as to when various disaster related legal issues may arise. Recovery from a disaster is a long and difficult process; the legal needs of disaster survivors will be ongoing for years. We, as legal providers, ask for your patience as we process the cases, determine the next steps, and identify how pro bono attorneys can assist throughout the recovery period.
